Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Dina El-Sioufi moved with her parents to the UK in the 1970s. After completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mathematical Physics at Kings College, she focused on the history of art before completing her Master's degree in Modern French Studies and a PhD in French at UCL.
Since beginning to paint in 2013, El-Sioufi has developed her artistic practice as a form of storytelling. Infusing ready-made elements – themes from operas or poetry, inspiration from classical music, literature or historical events – with her own aesthetic perspective, El-Sioufi’s work elaborates on our shared narratives while developing entirely new ones. Capturing the intricate interplay of cultural and intellectual influences shaping our contemporary world, El-Sioufi's interdisciplinary approach is exemplary of what different mediums share as well as what makes them unique.
Recent exhibitions include Recollections of Things Past, After Nyne Gallery, 2018, Painting and Difference, 2020, and An Egyptian Voyage Into the World: Opera Aperta, 2022, both The Egyptian Bureau for Cultural Affairs in London.
