DROP IN: Professor Eenasul Fateh hosts DROP IN - first iteration at Ed Cross Fine Art

19 Garrett Street 12 March 2025
19 Garrett Street 3 - 5 pm

DROP IN is an embodied, emergent artwork which subverts degraded notions of art in a time of crisis.

Through his interventions, Professor Eenasul Fateh creates trauma-informed spaces where individuals can be present among strangers—visible to one another, having come in on their own. These meet-ups atypically occur across a variety of defined settings, from public spaces and streets to institutions and galleries. Fateh and his co-hosts extend a warm invitation to an informal space where participants can talk, listen and gather over coffee, tea and biscuits. A trolley laden with modest offerings and a thoughtfully arranged space provides a gentle structure—whether for browsing select items, engaging with others, or simply sitting back and taking a quiet break.

Fateh’s practice is grounded in a lifetime’s commitment to mentorship and working with people - from survivors of trauma, to corporations, to street gangs. These bodies of practice have intersected and culminated recently with influential contributions: the creation of a radical ‘drop-in’ space within the Trauma Unit at The Tavistock Clinic (2022–2024), the design and animation of the ‘Support Group’ open forum as part of Tate Modern’s Gathering Ground exhibition (throughout 2025), and his participation in the inquiry Museum as Hospital? A Diagnostic (April 2025) in Giverny and Paris, organised by the Terra Foundation for American Art and KADIST.

The first iteration of DROP IN will be co-hosted with Abbas Zahedi and will take place from 3 - 5 pm on Wednesday, 12 March at Ed Cross Fine Art alongside off-site locations* in the lead-up to Spring 2025, including a collaboration with Abbas Zahedi at Tate Modern on April 5.

Please note: these events are not filmed, recorded or photographed. Attendees participate on their own and anticipate that they will be in the company of strangers from a wide range of circumstances. DROP IN does not require notice of people’s intentions to join in, though participants are always welcome to email beforehand or indeed after.

DROP IN is open to all.
