Eric Pina
VOLTA, the renowned art fair for new and emerging art, debuted in Basel, Switzerland in 2005 as a collaboration between dealers and friends. The aim was to secure a platform for international galleries beyond young art stalwart Liste and market heavyweight Art Basel. Returning to the city’s landmark venue of Markthalle, VOLTA 12 brings together over sixty galleries from twenty countries and thirty three cities around the globe, promising another showcase not to be missed.
Ed Cross Fine Art is delighted to present Eric Pina. Eric Pina studied at l’Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dakar, Senegal before completing his training in Europe where he received a degree from l‘Ecole Supérieure d’Art de Mulhouse et de Haute-Alsace in Mulhouse, France.
Honing in on human body language and the micro interactions between people and cultural backgrounds, Pina’s practice comprises painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. Diverse in material application, his figures carry an emblematic presence even when removed from their context, isolated from their journey or task. Pina’s compositions amass an unlikely group of citizens, brought together in what appears to be an ambiguous waiting game. Fascinated by these encounters, he imagines intimate, parallel universes that opportune a multitude of scenarios and ‘small’ moments.
